North Wall

Welcome to Membership

On the North Wall we see initiates being welcomed into the fraternal society of the Modern Woodmen of America by the Great Consul (also known as the Forest Patriarch), who was always stationed on the north axis wall. They are standing in front of the only fruit tree shown in the entire mural. The tree is bearing fruit, much like membership bears fruit for new initiates. The Forest Patriarch points to the castle on the hill, focusing attention on the flags bearing the motto of “Peace, Light and Safety” within the Valton MWA Camp #6190. Hüpeden again brings in his own background with a very Germanic historic castle.

Also note that on this wall, the very dark, dense forests of the previous murals have now been cut, and flowers, fruit trees and even a birch have come forth. The initial forest is being cleared, and we see second growth in the forest being tamed and made safe for the Modern Woodmen’s families and civilization.
