Build a Home for Wildlife!

Join John Starling for an engaging demonstration focused on bat habitat, conservation, and bat box construction.

Space is limited to ensure plenty of workspace and individual guidance. Advance registration is encouraged.

What We’ll Cover:

  • Bat Basics: Learn about Wisconsin bat species, their role in the ecosystem, and why habitat loss has made bat boxes increasingly important.
  • Assembly Demonstration: John will demonstrate how a bat box is assembled and explain the unique design features that make bat houses successful.
  • Placement & Habitat: Discussion on proper mounting locations, sunlight exposure, seasonal timing, and common mistakes to avoid.
  • The “Real Life” Side: Conversation about occupancy expectations, maintenance, and what it really takes to attract bats. Bats prefer the bat box, and can be easily nudged to take up residency in the box and out of an undesirable location.

The Experience:

Enjoy a relaxed educational afternoon with opportunities for questions, discussion, and wildlife learning.

The Swag:

Bat box kits with precut pieces will be available for purchase for those who would like to assemble one at home.
