“This will be worth knowing. To have something true to tell the future, let’s pay attention to flowers today.”
— David George Haskell
Join us for an afternoon of nature journaling with Maia Persche.
Nature journals are creative accounts of wild species, places, and occurrences as they intersect with our lives. In this class, we will learn about the practice of nature observation and the art and science of record-keeping — from proportional sketching and watercolor techniques to species identification, visual storytelling, and nurturing a sense of place and seasonality.
Each participant will receive a watercolor accordion journal handmade by artist Angela Johnson, along with thoughtful, hands-on instruction from Maia Persche in observation, sketching, watercolor techniques, and nature record-keeping. The journal is designed especially for recording observations, sketches, and field notes.
No experience is needed. All materials are supplied, but feel free to bring a favorite pen or pencil, and any watercolor supplies you like to use.
